A Study on the Localization of International Chinese Textbooks in Macau: Taking A Course in International Chinese as an Example

基于《国际汉语教程》的澳门地区汉语教材本土化研究

摘要:年来,全球范围内兴起的汉语学习热潮与国际中文教育事业的蓬勃发展,促使“国别化”“本土化”汉语教材及其编写与应用研究获得更多关注。本研究着眼于中国澳门地区国际中文教育事业发展现状,立足于在澳汉语学习者真实需求,对澳门地区首部采取葡英双语注释且具备本土化特征的国际中文教材《国际汉语教程》(初级篇)加以考察、研究,从语音、词汇、语法、文化项目四方面对教材编写的“本土化”方式和教材内容的“本土化”呈现等进行分析,发现:由于广泛选编澳门地区本土话题,教材的词汇本土化程度达到了其它优秀海外教材的平均水平;文化项目上则同时兼顾了对中华文化的呈现与对澳门社会的介绍。另一方面,由于缺少中葡语言对比和葡语国家汉语学习者偏误调查,教材在语音和语法本土化两方面还有较大的提升空间。本研究同时结合对使用《国际汉语教程》(初级篇)进行汉语学习的学生开展半结构访谈,发现教材符合澳门地区汉语教学标准及学习需求,葡英双语注释满足了不同学习者的学习需要。在教材话题的选择上应该以中国话题为主,可以适当增加澳门相关话题和葡语国家,特别是非洲国家相关话题。最后,本研究结合上述步骤及所得资料、结论,明确澳门地区本土化教材编写路径与方向,在此基础上探讨优化本土化教材应用策略,为澳门地区国际中文教学实践提供科学建议

Title: A Study on the Localization of International Chinese Textbooks in Macau: Taking A Course in International Chinese as an Example

Abstract: In recent years, the global surge in Chinese language learning and the vigorous development of international Chinese language education have spurred increased attention on the research of country-specific and localized Chinese language textbooks, as well as their compilation and application. This study examined the development of international Chinese language education in Macao, China, focusing on the genuine needs of learners in the region. It analyzed the first international Chinese textbook in Macao featuring bilingual Portuguese-English annotations and localized characteristics: A Course in International Chinese, Elementary Level. Through an examination of its phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, and cultural projects. Findings revealed that the textbook achieves vocabulary localization comparable to other outstanding overseas materials through extensive selection of Macao-specific topics. Its cultural projects effectively balance presentations of Chinese culture with introductions to Macao society. On the other hand, due to the lack of Sino-Portuguese language comparison and surveys on errors made by Chinese language learners from Portuguese-speaking countries, the textbook still has considerable room for improvement in phonetics and grammar localization. This study also conducted semi-structured interviews with students learning Chinese using A Course in International Chinese, Elementary Level. It was found that the textbook complies with the Chinese teaching standards and learning needs of the Macao region, and the bilingual Portuguese-English annotations meet the learning needs of different learners. Regarding topic selection, the curriculum should prioritize Chinese themes while appropriately incorporating topics related to Macau and Portuguese-speaking countries, particularly those in Africa. Finally, integrating the aforementioned steps, data, and conclusions, this study clarifies the path and direction for developing localized textbooks in Macau. Building on this foundation, it explores strategies to optimize the application of localized textbooks, offering scientific recommendations for international Chinese language teaching practices in Macau.
